Bus Stop Information

Eligibility for school bus transportation is dependent on the following:

  • Students must be residing in the school attendance area as defined by the District unless the District had to overflow the student to another school zone. If a student resides outside of a particular school zone, they are not eligible for transportation.
  • Transportation is home to school and school to home only. School bus transportation to a daycare or after school care is not allowed.
  • Students must be living outside of the school walk zone.
    • Middle School students must live more than one mile from their assigned school.
    • High School students must live more than three miles from their assigned school.

Routing

The Helena School District offers bus service along established, patterned routes such as the primary access road adjacent to rural areas and gridded coverage through most of the valley.

Route changes may be requested by contacting the Transportation Router. Approval is dependent on existing road maintenance agreements, bus turnaround locations or bus loop options and a safe waiting location for students.

Pickup locations are placed along these routes as close to your home as possible. Keep in mind that buses must be able to operate their flashing amber lights for 500′ between stops.

We also require adequate visibility for other vehicle traffic to see the stopped bus, and your request for a stop may require a site visit by one of our staff.
