A local politician, who wishes only to be named only as “a proud supporter of our kids and public schools” recently donated $2500 to be applied to unpaid school meal accounts across the city.
According to state law, political candidates are to zero-out their accounts at the end of a race, by either giving funds back to donors or by donating them. This donation, though generous any time of the year, could not be more appropriate, as this week marks “Fight Childhood Hunger” week nationwide, raising awareness of the 1 in 6 school age children just in Montana who don’t get enough to eat each day.
According to this supporter, “Though it’s just a drop in the bucket, we wanted to help Helena’s kids, and hopefully inspire others to pitch in too.”
Although he wishes to remain anonymous, we at the Helena public schools want to wish him a very heartfelt thank you.
