Currently the Helena Public Schools Transportation Department requires that kindergarten and 1st grade students be met at their afternoon school bus stop by a parent or legal guardian for their safety.
The Helena Public Schools Transportation Department has provided bus ID cards to all registered kindergarten and 1st graders. Picture information will be out mid-summer and picture days are tentatively set for early to mid-August.
There is also an Escort and Opt-out program for kindergarten and 1st grade parents to utilize after school. The program was created to ensure the safe delivery of our most vulnerable student population. A parent or a designated individual is required to escort all kindergarten and first grade students’ home, unless an opt-out form is on file.
It is my understanding that Helena Public Schools has a procedure that requires a parent/legal guardian to meet kindergarten and first grade students at the afternoon bus stop daily in an effort to enhance the safety and security of the most vulnerable student’s population. This procedure doesn’t meet with my personal needs or desires, therefore I would like to exercise my parental rights and allow my kindergarten and/or first grade child to
a) Escort-be met by one of the following people (please indicate relationship and if person selected rides same bus)
b) Opt-Out-to be let off the bus without having a parent/legal guardian or designated person present
(Please note, multiple submissions will not result in in multiple escorts being named for your child(ren). Each Permission Letter supersedes the previously submitted form.)
