This afternoon at Bryant Elementary School, local author and Helena native Annie McCarvel McCutcheon read her best-selling book as part of Helena Education Foundation’s Fabulous Firsts program.
Fabulous Firsts is a signature program of the Helena Education Foundation that provides a new, hardcover, award-winning book for each first-grade student in the district, to nurture young minds in the joy and importance of reading as a foundation for learning.
Reading events are organized at each elementary school during September; snacks are served and parents, HEF board and staff, program sponsors and volunteers participate in the events and read to students. In many schools, upper classmates wrap the books for their first-grade classmates and include a handmade bookmark or a note about their own Fabulous Firsts experiences.
HEF gives 640 books each year to first graders, and a set of books is also given to each library.
