Friday Update from Superintendent Weltz | October 11, 2024

Dear Families and Staff,

In today’s newsletter we’ll continue our “Alumni Discovery Journey.” On this next leg of our trip, we’re traveling to Arizona to meet Dr. Katie Connors, OB-GYN and Helena High School Class of 2000.

Dr. Connors shared how her public education provided the academic foundation and life skills she needed to persevere through the rigors of her medical training and career.

In case you missed it, our first featured alumnus was new Helena High School Principal Brian Kessler. You can find his story here.

We’re taking this journey to tell the stories of our Helena Public Schools graduates and how a well-rounded public education – from academics to extracurriculars – prepared them for success and the opportunity to make a difference in our community, our state, our country and our world.

I hope these stories help illustrate why our ongoing work to ensure funding for quality public education, a right that is guaranteed for every citizen in our Montana Constitution, is so important. I’ll share more about that effort forward next week.

Thank you to Dr. Connors for taking time out of her busy schedule to share her story with us!

I also want to say a special thanks to Carroll College for hosting our football teams in their newly renovated Nelson Stadium. Helena High defeated Missoula Sentinel 20-17 last night on the beautiful new “Valley Bank Field” synthetic turf. We look forward to Capital High meeting Flathead at Nelson Stadium this Thursday evening.  We’re grateful for all that our partners at Carroll College do to support our students!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Respectfully,

Rex M. Weltz, Superintendent
Helena Public Schools
