Dear Families, Staff, and the Helena Community,
Hopefully you have already heard that Helena Public Schools has placed three levies on the ballot for the May 5 election. Residents will soon receive ballots in the mail, with distribution beginning April 15.
This election includes an Elementary General Fund Operations Levy and Elementary and High School Operations, Infrastructure, and Licensing Technology Levies. It is important to clarify that levies are for learning and bonds are for buildings – these are completely different funding mechanisms and cannot be moved from one fund to another.
These levies cannot fund major new construction or capital building projects and DO NOT bring more screens into the classroom. The General Fund Operations Levy funding would be dedicated to the core daily operations and essential tools that support student learning such as classroom supplies, utility costs, and the recruitment and retention of high-quality educators. The Technology Levies ensure our district can maintain the district’s existing technology infrastructure and secure learning environment. This includes the routine maintenance and scheduled replacement of current devices, renewal of software licenses and cloud-based services used by staff and students, and upkeep of the network and security systems that support daily instruction
For more information on the upcoming election, please visit https://helenaschools.org/2026election/ or reach out to our office directly. We are happy to discuss further!
Beyond the ballot, our schools are vibrant with activity. Next week, our elementary schools will celebrate the Week of the Young Child, highlighting the importance of early childhood education. We have also fully transitioned into the excitement of the spring sports season. With graduation quickly approaching, the district is moving at a fast pace. Please continue to monitor your student’s school-specific communications to stay updated.
Respectfully,

Rex M. Weltz, Superintendent

In lieu of Week of the Young Child next week, we took our 7th episode to Warren Elementary to chat with KinderSprout teacher Hillary Cecrle and a few of her students! We can’t wait for all the energy next week as we welcome little learners and their families into classrooms like hers!
