Mount Ascension Academy

 

Mt. Ascension Charter School is a free online learning option offered through the Helena Public School District. Mt. Ascension gives students in grades 6-12 and who in the Helena School District, the opportunity to take classes online full-time, part-time, or in a blended model to meet a student’s educational needs.

 

THINGS TO KNOW

  • There is no direct instruction. Helena Public School teachers and admin and Mt. Ascension staff monitor the classes.
  • Students may enroll full time or part-time.
  • Full-time enrolled students at Mount Ascension Charter School may take in-person courses from CRA, HMS, HHS or CHS in a part-time status.
  • Full-time enrolled students at CHS or HHS or PAL may take courses from the Mount Ascension Charter School according to Board Policy 2135, a maximum of 2.5 semester credits.
  • We offer flexible scheduling. However, the format follows the District’s block schedule as well as a quarterly calendar per the official HPS school year calendar for 6-12+. Mount Ascension Charter School will also be on the same school calendar year as Helena Public Schools – meaning, breaks included.
    • Students can log into their classes at any time day or night, weekends, school breaks and holidays. Please note that this does not mean teachers or staff will be available to assist during these periods of time.
  • Tests and quizzes are unlocked by staff throughout the day. Students are all0wed 3 attempts to pass the test or quiz.
  • Although this program is designed to be completed at the students’ own pace (within certain expectations), students should dedicate 1.5-2 hours per class, per day to progress through their classes in a timely manner.
  • Part-time students are not on a diploma track if online classes are their only enrollment.
  • Students may check out district technology (Chromebook) if they choose.

Are there any fees associated with enrolling at Mount Ascension Charter School?

NO!

Can my child still participate in sports and extracurricular activities?

YES! As long as they are enrolled in their neighborhood school, even if it is only for one or two in-person classes each day. Fully online students can enroll in their neighborhood school with an “extracurricular activities only” enrollment.

What curriculum is used?

Imagine Learning with Edgenuity. Theses classes are done independently by the student with occasional check-ins by staff.

What is the blended option?

This option allows students to take classes in-person and online.

Will my high school student receive a diploma for graduation?

YES! Mount Ascension Charter School students will graduate with a Helena School District diploma (23 credits). Students will graduate with their Charter School classmates, unless they are taking 4 or more classes in-person. Those students taking 4 or more in-person classes can choose to graduate with their HHS classmates, their CHS classmates or with their Charter School classmates.

  • Full Time Charter Students will graduate with their Charter School classmates.
  • Full Time Capital /Helena High School students graduate with a CHS or HHS specific diploma.
  • Part-time students aren’t on a diploma track if that is their only enrollment.

I homeschool my children. Can I use this program to supplement my in-home instruction?

YES!

When can I get my student enrolled?

Students must enroll in the Mountain Ascension Charter school before the start of the fall semester or winter semester. New enrollments will be considered for students who are new residents of our district attendance area in the middle of a semester.
