Supt. Weltz Friday Flyer | March 13, 2026

Dear Families, Staff, and the Helena Community,

While we were fortunate to dodge the worst of the high-wind event, I want to be clear about our philosophy regarding student safety: We will always over-prepare, even when the weather under-delivers. Whether it’s coordinating with our transportation teams or assessing road conditions at 5:00 AM, we believe that being ready for the “worst-case scenario” is the only way to operate. Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we navigated these shifts together.

Beyond the weather, we made the big announcement that Cal Boyle, current Principal of Helena Middle School, will be transitioning into the role of Principal of Capital High School for the 2026/27 school year, pending formal Board approval.

Mr. Boyle has previous experience as a high school teacher in Kalispell and his 20 years serving HMS as both a teacher and administrator has prepared him for this next chapter. His connection to Capital High is also well-established; he was a dedicated Bruin parent throughout his son’s high school career at Capital, and his wife is a former teacher at the school.

Driven by a profound care for the school’s future, Mr. Boyle approached me directly to express his strong interest in the position. Our conversations made it clear that his commitment to our mission and excitement for our upcoming growth and construction projects make him the ideal leader for this next chapter.

As we look toward this new chapter, we also want to express our deepest gratitude to Brett Zanto. Mr. Zanto has dedicated many years of exceptional service to CHS and the District. His impact on students, staff, and the community is profound, and we wish him the very best as he prepares for his own next steps.

With Mr. Boyle’s transition, we will begin the search for a new leader at Helena Middle School – stay tuned. In the meantime, please join me in congratulating Mr. Boyle on his new role as Principal of Capital High School!

Respectfully,

Rex M. Weltz, Superintendent
Helena Public Schools
