Dear Families, Staff, and the Helena Community,
As we approach the end of a demanding week, I want to share some important clarifications and reflections before we head into spring break.
The District is fully cooperating with the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office and legal authorities regarding the recent charges against a HPS and SACC employee. Based on court documents and evidence currently available, we want to clarify that this situation involved only one victim. The employee, who worked at CRA and SACC locations, including Central Summer SACC in 2025 and Kessler SACC during the first semester of this year, is strictly prohibited from school premises, is to have no contact with students, and has been placed on unpaid administrative leave. While we understand the deep concern regarding the employee’s past presence at these various sites, we are working closely with law enforcement to maintain a secure environment and are providing direct support to staff and families who feel they may need it. We are incredibly grateful for your patience and support as we work through this process with transparency and care.
In times of difficulty, our greatest asset is our connection to one another. I want to empower every member of our HPS community to speak up for one another and never shy away from having the hard conversations that keep our children safe. Supporting each other means being brave enough to voice concerns and looking out for our neighbors.
We are heading into spring break after several jam-packed weeks and heavy emotions over the last few days. I encourage you all to get some rest and take a breath next week. We must continue moving forward; we will return in April for our final stretch stronger, together.
Respectfully,

Rex M. Weltz, Superintendent
Helena Public Schools

On Tuesday, March 24, the Helena Public Schools Board of Trustees held their monthly school-hosted work session at Jefferson Elementary, which proved to be a pivotal start for several key initiatives aimed at supporting our students and the broader community, as well as to ensure the continued stability and growth of our district’s resources. The Board approved the language in regard to the three levies that voters will see on upcoming ballots this spring – Elementary Ballot Language for General Fund Operations Levy AND Ballot Language for Technology Levy for both the High School District and the Elementary School District. Clear, transparent communication is our priority as we ask the community to continue to invest in our schools. To start- we invite you to listen in on the sixth episode of ‘From the Ground Up with Helena Public Schools’ where we discuss what the tech levies, or more specifically the Operations, Infrastructure, and Licensing levies DO NOT DO and what they actually do fund. We will have more information coming at you soon!!
