Inclement Weather

On days of inclement weather, students and parents should expect some delays due to road and traffic conditions.

In harsh weather conditions, we ask that you not leave students unattended at bus stops.  If a bus is more than 15 minutes late, please call First Student at 227-7400.  If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact the Helena Public School’s Transportation Department at 324-2100.

Please watch this website, the HSD1 Transportation department Facebook page  and School Messenger for delays and other information. Please remember we will have a high volume of calls and will not be able to return calls in a timely manner.

RAVE Alert™ is the official emergency mass notification system used by public safety officials at the City of Helena and Lewis and Clark County to communicate with community residents during emergencies. Click on link for more information and how to sign up.

Tips on appropriate dress for cold weather

  • Wear several layers, the layer of air between each piece of clothing acts as extra insulation.
  • Wear clothing that insulates, shields and breathes. Wool and polypropylene are good insulators.
  • Outer layers should be wind resistant and waterproof.
  • Wear wool socks and well-fitting waterproof boots.
  • Wear a hat to prevent heat loss.
  • In most cases, mittens are warmer than gloves.
  • In extreme cold, cover all areas of exposed skin.
